Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, an MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party, has been shifted from Patiala to Bathinda jail on Thursday morning under heavy security arrangements.
A case had been registered against Pathanmajra at the Civil Lines Police Station in Patiala on charges of rape, fraud, and issuing death threats. Following the FIR, a police team had reached Karnal on September 2 to arrest him. According to police, he allegedly attempted to escape custody by opening fire and pelting stones at the police team during the operation. One police personnel was also injured in the incident.
The matter subsequently reached the court, where Pathanmajra filed for anticipatory bail, but his plea was rejected. In December 2025, the Patiala court declared him a proclaimed offender.
Reports later surfaced that he had fled to Australia and was even giving interviews from there. Following this, a lookout notice was issued against him. He was eventually arrested from Madhya Pradesh and brought back into custody.
