Heroin & weapons consignment was sourced from Pakistan based smugglers : DGP

Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Fazilka has busts a cross-border drug and weapons smuggling cartel with the arrest of one accused and recovered 2.1 Kg heroin and seven sophisticated pistols from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Gurnam Singh alias Gama, a resident of Bhange Wala (Jhuge Kishore Singh Wala) in Ferozepur. The recovered weapons include one 9MM Glock and four .30 bore pistols and two 9MM pistols along with 10 live cartridges. Police teams have also impounded his Hero Deluxe motorcycle, which was being used smuggling of contraband.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the drone-dropped consignment of heroin and weapons was sourced from Pakistan-based smugglers for executing criminal activities in the state. Further investigations are underway to unravel forward and backward linkages, he said.
Sharing operational details, AIG SSOC Fazilka Naresh Kumar Dogra said that acting on a specific tip-off, teams from SSOC Fazilka launched a special operation in the area of Jalalabad and apprehended the accused from near village Baghe Ke Uttar in Fazilka, when he was going on his motorcycle.
During the search, 2.1 kg heroin and three pistols were recovered from his possession, he said, while adding that on his disclosure, four more pistols were recovered from the location pinpointed by the arrested accused.
In this regard, an FIR No. 02 dated 24-02-2026 has been registered under sections 21C and 25 of the NDPS Act and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka.
