Workers mobilized for Rahul Gandhi’s MGNREGA Bachao Barnala rally
Congress party will never allow anti-people policies to succeed: Sidhu
Punjan Newsline, Mohali-
A special meeting was organized at the office located in Industrial Area, Phase-1, Mohali constituency by former Punjab Health Minister and senior Congress leader Balbir Singh Sidhu in connection with the ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangharsh Maha Rally’ to be held on February 28 at Barnala under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
On this occasion, Punjab Congress Committee’s in-charge for Mohali district Manjit Singh Jhullbuti, Mohali District President Kamal Kishore Sharma, Coordinator Rajesh Gupta, Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu, and former Chairman Market Committee Harkesh Chand Sharma Machhli Kalan especially attended the meeting. Their presence created great enthusiasm among the workers.
A large number of present and former councillors of Mohali Municipal Corporation, sarpanches, panches, representatives of Residents’ Associations, and office bearers and workers of various wings of the Congress party attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Balbir Singh Sidhu said that a record-breaking gathering from Mohali would participate in the ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangharsh Maha Rally’ at Barnala. He said the Indian National Congress has always stood firmly in support of the poor, labourers, and farmers, and this rally will further strengthen the voice of the people.
He said that schemes like MGNREGA are a lifeline for millions of families. He added that the Congress party will never allow anti-people policies to succeed. Punjab has always been a land of struggles, and its people know how to unite and fight for their rights. The enthusiasm and unity among Mohali workers clearly indicate that the Congress party will become stronger in the coming time.
Sidhu said that as elections approach, the present central and state governments are announcing ration kits and other inducements, but these steps are only meant to gain votes, not to serve public interest.
Launching a sharp attack on the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he alleged that the MGNREGA scheme is being weakened, pushing labourers towards unemployment.
Sidhu said that MGNREGA was started by the then Congress Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, which guaranteed employment to crores of workers. However, he alleged that the present Modi government has weakened the scheme by reducing its budget and delaying payments.
He said that Rahul Gandhi has always been at the forefront in fighting for the rights of the poor, labourers, farmers, and backward classes. He connects with people at the grassroots, understands their problems, and raises their voice in Parliament. Whether it is protecting welfare schemes like MGNREGA or raising issues of inflation, unemployment, and social injustice, Rahul Gandhi has stood firm on every front. He said they will fully support him in this fight.
He further alleged that due to the policies of the central government, inflation has become uncontrollable, unemployment is increasing, and farmers and labourers are the worst affected. He said the Congress party will fight every battle to protect people’s rights.
During the meeting, all leaders and workers assured that a large number of workers from Mohali constituency would participate in the Barnala rally and make the movement successful.
Congress leaders said in one voice that the fight for people’s rights will be fought from the streets to Parliament.
