Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj has strongly condemned the incident at Nanaksar Gurdwara Sahib in Edmonton, Alberta, where a man allegedly entered the gurdwara premises and assaulted two Sikh sevadars.

The Jathedar expressed deep concern over the incident and offered prayers for the speedy recovery and well-being of the injured sevadars.

According to the gurdwara management, the accused also moved towards Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. However, members of the sangat and sevadars present at the spot intervened and stopped him. No damage was caused to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The accused was later arrested by Edmonton Police.

Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj urged Sikh organisations in Canada to ensure a detailed investigation into the incident. He said it should be ascertained whether the accused had been influenced or provoked by any anti-Sikh group or organisation to target the gurdwara.

The Jathedar also condemned recent threats received by gurdwaras in Calgary and called on Calgary Police to investigate the matter seriously and bring the facts to light.

He said that according to Gurmat principles, the doors of a gurdwara are open to people of all faiths and communities, and prayers are offered daily for the welfare of all. However, considering the prevailing security situation, gurdwara management committees must ensure adequate security and vigilance.

All gurdwara management committees in Canada have been urged to review their security arrangements and ensure round-the-clock security at their respective gurdwaras.

Referring to a recent report by the World Sikh Organization, Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj said hatred and discrimination against Sikhs in Canada had increased both at the grassroots level and on online social media platforms.
