Election Commission’s decision to suspend SSP Tarn Taran is delayed but justified: Pargat Singh

“How can Harayana CM Saini, who ordered lathicharge and firing on Punjabis, now ask for their votes?”

Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-

All India Congress Committee Secretary, former Education Minister, and MLA Padma Shri Pargat Singh has welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to suspend Tarn Taran SSP Dr. Ravjot Kaur, calling it a good decision even if taken late. He urged the Election Commission to ensure that the Tarn Taran by-election is conducted in a free, fair, and intimidation-free manner. This action, he said, will boost the morale of workers and other political parties participating in the Tarn Taran elections.

Pargat Singh stated that the Aam Aadmi Party has turned Punjab into a police state. Referring not only to Tarn Taran but also to previous by-elections, he said the AAP government has blatantly misused the police force during elections—an issue he had already raised in the Vidhan Sabha session. He added that this corrective action should have been taken earlier.

He also took a sharp dig at Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who had come to campaign in Tarn Taran. Pargat questioned in what capacity Saini was campaigning in Punjab, reminding everyone that Saini had ordered lathicharge and firing on farmers protesting at the Shambhu border—an incident that led to the martyrdom of young Shubhkaran. He asserted that the people of Punjab will give a fitting reply to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The former Punjab Minister further criticized the Central Government, saying that it has failed to fulfill its employment promises even after 12 years in power. When the BJP came to power, India’s total debt stood at ₹55 lakh crore, which has now soared to ₹210 lakh crore. He accused the BJP of advancing a one-party rule agenda. Concluding his remarks, Pargat Singh reiterated that Aam Aadmi Party continues to function as the B-team of the BJP, working together to ruin Punjab’s future.
