A dramatic late-night encounter between the Gurugram Police Crime Branch and alleged shooters linked to the Deepak Nandal gang left four suspects dead and one critically injured after an intense exchange of gunfire in Sushant Lok Phase-1 on Thursday night.

The encounter unfolded around 11 pm in A Block of Sushant Lok Phase-1, where a Scorpio SUV carrying five armed men allegedly arrived outside the residence of businessman Vishal Bairi, son of the founder of SGT University. Police personnel in plain clothes had already been deployed inside and around the house following reports of extortion threats.

According to police, the gang had allegedly demanded an extortion payment of ₹1 crore from Bairi, with threatening messages being sent over the past week. Acting on intelligence inputs, security had been tightened around the residence in anticipation of a possible attack.

As the suspects allegedly opened fire at the house, officers stationed at the location immediately alerted the control room. Crime Branch teams from Sector-40 and Units 17 and 39, which had been strategically positioned nearby, rushed into action and surrounded the attackers from three sides.

Police said the suspects were warned to surrender but instead allegedly opened fire on the officers. A fierce gun battle followed, with more than 40 rounds fired from both sides, turning the otherwise quiet residential neighbourhood into a scene resembling a battlefield.

All five alleged shooters sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange. They were rushed to Medanta Hospital, where doctors declared four of them dead. The fifth suspect remains under treatment in critical condition.

Three Gurugram Police personnel were also injured during the encounter and are receiving medical care.

According to police sources, the deceased suspects include one resident of Tohana in Fatehabad district and three from Rohtak, while the injured suspect is reportedly from Nuh. Their criminal records and alleged links to the Deepak Nandal gang are being investigated. Weapons recovered from the scene have been seized and sent for forensic examination.

Senior police officials described the operation as one of the biggest encounters in Gurugram's history. According to them, it is believed to be the first time that four alleged criminals have been killed in a single police encounter in the city. Retired ADGP Resham Pal Singh also said that such an incident has not been witnessed in Gurugram or Haryana since the 1990s.

The investigation into the alleged extortion racket, the gang's activities, and the recovered weapons is ongoing.
