Harmanpreet Kaur Backs Kashvee Gautam to Shine for Team India

Young players to get opportunities in South Africa T20I series ahead of World Cup preparations

Punjab Newsline,Sports :

India women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed strong confidence in young all-rounder Kashvee Gautam, stating that she has the potential to make a significant impact in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. The five-match series is being seen as a crucial preparation phase ahead of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 scheduled in June.

Harmanpreet described Kashvee as a “talented” player who can contribute with both bat and ball, along with being an excellent fielder. Her inclusion comes at a time when Amanjot Kaur is sidelined due to injury. Considering the pace-friendly conditions in South Africa, the Indian team has opted for a pace-heavy bowling attack.

Kashvee’s recent performances have been impressive. Representing Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League, she has consistently delivered with the ball and contributed useful runs with the bat, putting herself in contention for a T20I debut.

Speaking about team combinations, Harmanpreet clarified that the changes have been made purely based on conditions and balance. She highlighted that the spin department is already strong with players like Shreyanka Patil and Deepti Sharma performing consistently, which made it important to strengthen the pace attack.

The captain also emphasized giving opportunities to young players, stating that such exposure before the World Cup is essential for building a well-prepared squad. Performing well against a strong side like South Africa will boost the team’s confidence.

Harmanpreet acknowledged South Africa as a balanced and competitive side, making the series a valuable test for India. The team’s objective is not only to win the series but also to ensure every player is match-ready ahead of the World Cup.
