The Haryana government has taken a major step towards easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in key cities and towns, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini approving a series of ring road and bypass projects in Hisar, Kurukshetra, Narnaul, Jind and Sohna-Palwal. The projects are estimated to cost around ₹9,700 crore.
Saini chaired a meeting at the Secretariat to discuss the financial model for the state’s contribution under a master plan aimed at reducing traffic congestion in urban areas located along National Highways. He directed officials to formulate a policy for developing outer ring roads and National Highways under the master plan in accordance with the Central Government’s policy framework.
A three-member committee comprising officials from the Finance Department, Public Works Department and Urban Local Bodies Department has also been constituted to address issues related to the state’s contribution under the cost-sharing arrangement with the Centre.
Among the key projects approved is the Hisar Bypass, which will connect Hisar-Rajgarh Road, or NH-52, with Hisar-Delhi Road and Hisar-Kaithal Road. The Kurukshetra-Ladwa Bypass has already received its Detailed Project Report, and construction work is expected to begin soon.
In Narnaul, an approximately 11-kilometre City Bypass will be connected to NH-148B. In Jind, an outer ring road along with a four-lane bypass on NH-352 will be developed.
The Sohna-Palwal Bypass will also undergo a major upgrade. The approximately 24-kilometre stretch from NH-919 will be upgraded, redesigned and constructed as a four-lane road, aimed at improving traffic movement and regional connectivity.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to develop greenfield connectivity linking the DND-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh Bypass-KMP link and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with Jewar International Airport.
Saini said the state’s land share for the Karnal Ring Road has already been deposited. The ring road connecting Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment is also under construction and will be completed at the earliest.
The meeting further approved construction of a railway under-bridge on Civil Station Road in Sirsa on the Rewari-Bathinda railway line.
Additional works were also approved for several link roads connecting areas including Anawas, Balana, Khatod, Budin, Nimbhera, Balecha, Mahendragarh-Bucholi Road, Nangwas and Ateli. These projects are expected to strengthen local connectivity and improve access between several towns and surrounding areas.
