Captain Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 84 and Siraj’s three-wicket haul power India to victory
India kicked off their T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing 29-run victory over the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. The American side won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, India posted 161 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the USA managed 132 for 8 in 20 overs, falling short of the 162-run target.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav led from the front with a brilliant unbeaten knock of 84 off 49 balls. His innings, laced with boundaries and sixes, steadied the Indian innings after early setbacks. It was his eighth half-century as India’s T20I captain. During the course of his innings, Suryakumar also completed 1,000 runs in T20 Internationals as captain, marking another significant milestone in his career.
When India found themselves under pressure due to quick wickets, Suryakumar anchored the innings and ensured the team reached a competitive total. His composed yet aggressive approach proved decisive in setting up the win.
For the USA, Shubham Ranjane and Sanjay Krishnamurthi scored 37 runs each, while Milind Kumar contributed 34 runs. However, the Indian bowlers maintained control by striking at regular intervals. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel chipped in with two wickets each.
With this all-round performance, India made a strong start to the tournament, boosting their confidence as they aim to continue their winning momentum in the T20 World Cup.
