India made a confident start to their campaign at the Asia Cup Archery Stage I in Bangkok, clinching two bronze medals and signaling strong intent for the remainder of the tournament. The medals came through impressive performances in the recurve women’s team and compound men’s team events at the SAT Football Stadium on Wednesday.

The Indian women’s recurve trio of Ruma Biswas, Kirti, and Ridhi delivered a composed and dominant performance to defeat Malaysia 5-1 and secure a podium finish. The team had already shown promise in the qualification round, finishing third with a combined score of 1915. Ruma led from the front with 650 points, supported by Kirti’s 638 and Ridhi’s 627. Carrying that momentum forward, the trio registered a solid 6-2 win over Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals before going down 5-1 to a strong Chinese side in the semi-finals.

India’s second bronze came in dramatic fashion in the compound men’s team event. Rajat Chauhan, Uday Kamboj, and Rishabh Yadav edged past Bhutan 234-232 in a nail-biting contest. Earlier, the trio had showcased their class with a convincing 238-228 victory over Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals, but narrowly missed a place in the final after a heartbreaking 234-233 loss to Vietnam in the semi-finals. Notably, the Indian men had topped the qualification round with a commanding 2126 points, underlining their consistency and depth.

With momentum on their side, India now looks set for more success. The mixed team events are scheduled next, while multiple Indian squads have already secured spots in medal matches. The women’s compound and men’s recurve teams will compete for gold, while several archers remain in contention in individual categories, including an all-Indian final in the men’s compound event.

As the tournament progresses, India’s archers continue to showcase rising dominance and depth on the continental stage, raising hopes for an even richer medal tally.
