Indian stars dominate finals as Abhay and Anahat deliver commanding performances
It was a night of pride and celebration for Indian squash as Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s finals of the Indian Open 2026 at the CCI on Sunday.
The men’s final witnessed an all-Indian showdown, where second seed Abhay Singh outclassed compatriot Veer Chotrani in straight games, winning 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-4). The opening two games were fiercely contested, with long rallies and intense exchanges, but Abhay’s composure and attacking precision helped him edge ahead. He raised his level significantly in the third game, dominating with sharp angles and powerful smashes to seal the title convincingly.
In the women’s final, top seed Anahat Singh showcased her class by defeating Egypt’s Hana Moataz 3-1 (11-5, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6). Anahat started strong, controlling the first two games with her speed and deceptive play. Although Hana mounted a spirited comeback in the third game, Anahat quickly regained control in the fourth, displaying resilience and focus to secure back-to-back Indian Open titles.
Both champions highlighted the growing strength of Indian squash and set their sights on future global competitions, including the upcoming Olympics. The thrilling finals not only showcased top-tier talent but also left fans excited about the sport’s bright future in India.
