Maintenance of plantations to now become part of tender process: Rao Narbir Singh

Instructions issued to link the tendering process with the Haryana Engineering Works Portal

Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-

Haryana Forest and Environment Minister Rao Narbir Singh has directed officials to mandatorily link the entire tender process for plantation and its maintenance with the Haryana Engineering Works Portal to ensure transparency and accountability. He made it clear that once the saplings are ready, their maintenance must also be made an integral part of the tendering process so that the planted trees survive and remain protected.

The Minister said regular monitoring will be conducted to ensure that contractors depositing ESI contributions for labourers every month, thereby safeguarding workers’ interests. He further stated that the monopoly of DFOs in the tender process will not be allowed and a transparent system will be implemented. Rao Narbir Singh was presiding over a review meeting with department officials here today.

During the meeting, the Minister was informed that the Forest Department has 87 ranges across the State, and currently, plantation tenders are awarded for a period of five years. He directed that maximum plantation should be carried out on both sides of canals. For this, joint measurement of authorised land along canals should be done with the Irrigation & Water Resources Department. Any encroachment must be removed, and extensive plantation should be carried out on the cleared land.

The Minister stated that a proposal to allocate a separate budget for nurseries is being considered. The Government aims to ensure maximum plantation every year on Panchayat and other government department lands under Central and State schemes, with clear responsibility fixed for maintenance.
