National Symposium on &39;Indian Folk Theatre&39; Inaugurated

The Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, inaugurated a three-day national symposium today on the theme "Indian Folk Theatre: Bearer of the Cultural Heritage of the People." This symposium is being organized from 12th to 14th August. In the inaugural session, various esteemed speakers shared their views on the relevance of the theme.

The inaugural session was presided over by Professor Shashiprabha Kumar, Chairperson of the Governing Body, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. The symposium commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Professor R.P. Tiwari, Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study and Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, joined the session virtually. The symposium's convener, Professor Rajendra Singh, introduced the theme.

In the inaugural session, Professor Rajendra Gautam, former Professor of the Hindi Department, University of Delhi, shared his thoughts. Following this, Professor Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, Vice-Chairman of the Haryana Sahitya and Sanskriti Akademi, Panchkula, highlighted the cultural heritage of folk theatre in his address. Finally, Professor Shashiprabha Kumar delivered the presidential address online, emphasizing the significance of Indian folk theatre. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mehar Chand Negi, Secretary, IIAS, Shimla.
