Young player from Assam creates history in Stockholm, Sweden; used YouTube to sharpen his strategies and secure the final Grandmaster norm

India has added another remarkable achievement to its chess history as 16-year-old Mayank Chakraborty from Assam has become the 94th chess Grandmaster of India. What makes this achievement even more special is that Mayank is the first player from Northeast India to reach this prestigious milestone. His success has become a proud moment not only for his family and state but also for the entire Northeast region.

Mayank achieved this historic feat during the Stockholm North Young Talent Tournament held in Stockholm, Sweden. He secured his final Grandmaster norm with an impressive performance in the tournament. In the eighth round, Mayank defeated strong opponent Philip Lindberg, ensuring the Grandmaster title with one round still remaining in the event.

During the tournament, Mayank scored 7 points out of 9 rounds and raised his live rating to 2508, which officially confirmed his Grandmaster status. His performance was widely praised as he managed to outplay several experienced international players with confidence and tactical brilliance.
