Punjab Govt takes major step to strengthen sanitation and hygiene facilities in Anganwadi Centres

New toilets to be constructed for children in 2,162 Anganwadi Centres: Dr. Baljit Kaur

Rs. 7.78 crore to be spent on construction of toilets

The Punjab Government, under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to the holistic development of children and is continuously making efforts to further strengthen the infrastructure in Anganwadi Centres across the state. Special focus is also being laid on improving sanitation and hygiene facilities for children to ensure a clean, safe and healthy environment for them. This was stated by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur.

Sharing details in this regard, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that new toilets will be constructed for children in 2,162 Anganwadi Centres in rural areas, with an estimated expenditure of around Rs. 7.78 crore. She added that approximately Rs. 36,000 will be spent on the construction of each toilet. She further informed that funds will soon be released to the districts for the construction of toilets in Anganwadi Centres so that the work can begin in a timely manner.

The Cabinet Minister said that these toilets will be constructed keeping in view the health, safety and hygiene of children, which will help provide better facilities to young children attending Anganwadi Centres and create a clean and healthy environment for them.

Dr. Baljit Kaur said that Anganwadi Centres serve as the first stage of care and early learning for young children. Providing a safe, clean and healthy environment for children is the Government’s top priority. She added that improved toilet facilities will not only help safeguard children’s health but will also strengthen the confidence of parents in Anganwadi Centres.She further stated that the construction of these toilets in rural areas will be carried out through the Rural Development and Panchayats Department and the work will be completed on a priority basis.
