Punjab and Odisha have once again underlined their dominance in Indian domestic hockey, securing bronze medals at the prestigious Hockey India Sub Junior National Championship 2026. While Hockey Punjab clinched a podium finish in the men’s category, the Hockey Association of Odisha impressed in the women’s competition, continuing their remarkable consistency across national tournaments.
These achievements are not isolated successes but part of a larger pattern. Both states have built a strong reputation for regularly finishing among the top teams, backed by a robust system that nurtures talent from the grassroots to the international stage. Hockey Punjab, in particular, boasts an impressive tally of 33 medals across competitions, including 14 golds. Their men’s teams have been the backbone of this success, consistently delivering strong performances in both senior and junior categories.
The senior men’s squad recently added another feather to their cap by winning the Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2025. Players like Harmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, and Jugraj Singh continue to play a vital role at the national level, while emerging talents such as Manmeet Singh and Arshdeep Singh are steadily making their mark in junior international tournaments.
On the other hand, the Hockey Association of Odisha has developed a balanced and sustainable ecosystem for both men’s and women’s hockey. With 26 medals to their name, Odisha’s success is rooted in strong grassroots programs, modern infrastructure, and a deep cultural connection to the sport. The state’s contribution to Indian hockey is further strengthened by players like Amit Rohidas and promising youngsters such as Amandeep Lakra.
In women’s hockey, Odisha continues to build momentum, with rising stars like Sunelita Toppo and Ajmina Kujur showcasing the growing depth of talent. With world-class venues in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela and continued investment in development, both Punjab and Odisha remain pillars of Indian hockey’s future, consistently producing champions and inspiring the next generation.
