Punjab Newsline | Jalandhar
The Counter-Intelligence wing has achieved a major breakthrough by busting an interstate illegal arms supply network and arresting two key accused. According to police officials, both individuals have links to Uttar Pradesh and had been supplying weapons to criminal gangs operating across Punjab for a long time.
Weapons Recovered
During the operation, police recovered:
- 10 country-made 7.65 mm pistols
- 20 magazines
Preliminary investigation suggests these weapons were being distributed to gangsters in different districts, contributing to rising criminal activities in the state.
International Links Exposed
Investigators have uncovered that the network was being operated under instructions from handlers based in Germany and the United States. These foreign-based criminals were coordinating and facilitating the supply of illegal weapons to strengthen local gangs.
Links to Terror Module
Police also revealed that two previously arrested operatives linked to the Babbar Khalsa International are connected to this case.
These operatives had allegedly planted three grenades and an explosive device near Balachaur. The same explosives were later used in a blast within the jurisdiction of Nalagarh police station in Himachal Pradesh.
Other Criminal Activities
The arrested accused are also involved in:
- A firing incident
- An extortion attempt at a travel agent’s house in Garhshankar
Both crimes were reportedly carried out on the instructions of their foreign handlers.
Investigation Underway
A case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar. Police have intensified the investigation and stated that more arrests are likely as efforts continue to dismantle the entire network.
