Punjab Newsline,Chandigarh :
In view of the increasing instances of police personnel posting reels and entertainment videos on social media platforms while wearing uniforms, the Punjab Police has now taken a strict stance. Considering the negative impact these activities have on the department’s image, the police headquarters has issued new and stringent guidelines for all police personnel across the state.
In recent days, several videos of police employees have gone viral in which they were seen dancing, performing bhangra, or making entertainment-related content while in uniform. The department believes that such videos harm discipline and damage the public image of the police force. For this reason, clear instructions have been issued stating that no police personnel will post any entertainment video, reel, or social media content during duty hours or while wearing uniform.
The DGP’s office has issued orders to all Range IGs, DIGs, Police Commissioners, and district SSPs, directing them to maintain strict surveillance on such activities. Any employee found violating the rules will face immediate departmental action. The order also states that undisciplined behavior on social media will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
To monitor this entire process, the State Cyber Crime Wing has been appointed as the nodal agency. This wing will keep track of social media activities of police personnel across the state, prepare reports on suspicious posts, and present them to the DGP office from time to time. These reports will be reviewed in meetings chaired by the DGP, where necessary action will be decided against the violators.
The department has clarified that violating the social media guidelines will not be treated as a minor mistake. It will directly affect the employee’s Annual Confidential Report (ACR). Negative remarks in the ACR could impact promotions and may even result in the employee being removed from important duty assignments.
In its order, the Punjab Police stated that the conduct of police personnel on social media must always be responsible, dignified, and professional. Any form of content that brings disrepute to the uniform or damages the department’s reputation will be strictly prohibited, and violators will face severe punishment.
After the new guidelines came into effect, surveillance has been increased at the district, commissionerate, and range levels. The department emphasized that social media should only be used for positive communication and public awareness—not for entertainment or personal popularity.
