Punjab Vigilance nabs sanitary inspector for taking bribe of Rs. 5000

CHANDIGARH: Punjab State Vigilance Bureau today nabbed sanitary inspector of Municipal Corporation (MC) Amritsar red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 5,000.

Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said Sanitary Inspector Harjinder Singh posted at MC Amritsar district was arrested on the complaint of Rinku Kumar of Gate Bhagta, Amritsar city.

He added that the complainant has approached the bureau and informed that he is working as safai sewak in MC Amritsar. The accused Sanitary Inspector and his middlemen Vishal Gill, a safai sewak in MC Amritsar, were demanding Rs. 10,000 for his transfer from one ward to other. He added that the deal was struck at Rs. 5,000.

After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and accused Sanitary Inspector was caught red handed for accepting bribe of Rs. 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

The spokesman said a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the above mentioned accused at Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Amritsar and further investigation was under progress.
