15-member squad announced for India–Sri Lanka tournament; Vinayak Shukla named Vice-Captain
Jatinder Singh, originally from Punjab, has been appointed as the captain of Oman’s 15-member national team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The Oman Cricket Board has also named Vinayak Shukla as the vice-captain. Under Jatinder Singh’s leadership, Oman will aim to deliver a strong performance on the global stage once again.
According to the ICC grouping, Oman has been placed in Group B, where they will face tough competition against Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Zimbabwe. This group is considered one of the most challenging in the tournament, making every match crucial for Oman.
Oman national team captain Jatinder Singh has his roots in Ludhiana district of Punjab. He was born on March 5, 1989, in Ludhiana. In 2003, he moved to Oman with his family, where his international cricket journey began.
Jatinder started his cricketing career in Oman and represented the country at the Under-19 level during the ACC Under-19 Elite Cup in 2007. He later made his T20 International debut for Oman in 2015 and has since become one of the team’s key players.
As of December 2024, Jatinder Singh has played 33 One Day International matches, scoring 985 runs at an average of 31.77, including three centuries and five half-centuries. In T20 Internationals, he has featured in 39 matches, scoring 875 runs at an average of 25.73. Notably, Jatinder has previously captained Oman in the Asia Cup as well, and his experience is expected to add significant strength to the team in the T20 World Cup.
