Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that the CM Health Scheme has been implemented across Punjab from January 22 and marks a historic step in strengthening the state’s healthcare system. He informed that nearly 65 lakh families are being covered under the scheme, benefiting around 3 crore people who will be entitled to free medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh. He emphasized that the health card issued under the scheme is completely free of cost and no fee of any kind will be charged from beneficiaries.
Dr. Balbir Singh clarified that the state government has already paid the required amount to the insurance company, ensuring that citizens do not face any financial burden while availing treatment. He said that treatment under the scheme will be available not only in government hospitals but also in empanelled private hospitals, enabling people to access quality healthcare services closer to their homes. Calling the scheme a milestone initiative, he said it would play a crucial role in making Punjab’s healthcare system more inclusive and robust.
Transport and Jail Minister Sardar Laljit Singh Bhullar stated that the primary objective of the CM Health Scheme is to ensure that no citizen of Punjab is deprived of quality healthcare due to financial constraints. He said that every family in the state will now be eligible for free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh, and economically weaker sections will also be able to get treatment in private hospitals without worrying about expenses.
Sardar Bhullar further informed that all medicines and diagnostic tests required during treatment will be provided free of cost under the scheme. He added that the scheme covers a wide range of advanced medical services, including Orthopaedics, General Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Urology, Oncology and several other specialised treatments. He made it clear that the entire cost of hospitalisation, treatment procedures and diagnostic services will be fully covered under the scheme.
Both ministers appealed to the public to come forward in large numbers and get themselves registered to avail the benefits of the CM Health Scheme. They expressed confidence that this landmark initiative of the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government would significantly improve access to free, quality healthcare and bring much-needed relief to the people of the state.
