Discharged from BCCI’s Centre of Excellence after completing rehab; proved match fitness with a solid knock in Vijay Hazare Trophy

India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been declared fully fit to play in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. After successfully completing his rehabilitation, Iyer was discharged from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence on Wednesday, clearing the way for his return to international cricket. He is now likely to feature in the first ODI against New Zealand.

According to media reports, VVS Laxman, head of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, informed chief selector Ajit Agarkar via email that Shreyas Iyer’s rehabilitation process had been completed and that he had been released. Following clearance from the medical team, Iyer has been made available for selection and is set to rejoin the Indian squad.

The 31-year-old batter had already been named in India’s squad for the ODI series against New Zealand, but his participation was subject to proving match fitness. Iyer successfully passed that test with flying colors. A day earlier, he played a crucial innings of 82 runs for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, demonstrating both his fitness and return to form.

Iyer’s comeback is expected to significantly strengthen India’s middle order. Known for his technique, experience, and ability to perform under pressure, he remains a key player for the team. His presence in the ODI series against a strong New Zealand side is expected to add balance and depth to the Indian lineup, with fans and selectors alike eager to see him make an impact on his return.
