Knockout stage ignites at Hyderabad’s G.M.C. Balayogi Stadium as top teams deliver commanding wins and star players shine
The 72nd Women’s Senior National Kabaddi Championship witnessed high-octane action on Day 3 as the knockout phase began at the G.M.C. Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. With the league stage concluded, the pre-quarterfinals set the tone for an electrifying battle, as several heavyweight teams booked their places in the quarterfinals with dominant and closely fought performances.
At the end of the group phase, Indian Railways, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Vidarbha, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan progressed to the pre-quarterfinals, making the evening session a treat for kabaddi fans.
Indian Railways underlined their title credentials with a convincing 46–27 win over Karnataka, showcasing strength in both raiding and defense. Maharashtra edged past Goa in a tense encounter, clinching a narrow 42–36 victory. Madhya Pradesh held their nerve to defeat Delhi 41–36, while Haryana delivered one of the most emphatic results of the day, crushing Vidarbha 50–19 with relentless raids and rock-solid tackling.
Chandigarh continued their impressive run by defeating Uttar Pradesh 45–39 to enter the quarterfinals. Tamil Nadu completed the list of qualifiers with a hard-fought 34–30 win against Rajasthan. Punjab also marched ahead after beating hosts Telangana 42–25 in Pre-Quarterfinal 7, while Himachal Pradesh registered a massive 67–22 victory over Gujarat in Pre-Quarterfinal 8.
Individual brilliance added extra spark to the competition. Karthika R. of Tamil Nadu remained consistent with sharp raiding throughout the league stage. Bhumika of Uttarakhand and Chhaya of Chhattisgarh emerged as aggressive attackers, keeping defenses under constant pressure. On the defensive front, Monika of Chandigarh stood out with a high tackle success rate, while Ghadhavi Sabhai of Gujarat and Muskan Sharma of Madhya Pradesh played crucial supporting roles.
Earlier on Day 2, Indian Railways dominated Pool A with commanding wins over Jammu & Kashmir and Delhi. Telangana and Rajasthan ruled Pool C, while Haryana and Goa impressed in Pool D. Maharashtra, Punjab, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh also delivered strong performances across their respective pools, setting the stage for an intense knockout phase.
