Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Smriti Mandhana has credited clear role definition and a strong team environment for the side’s impressive start to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. Speaking on Thursday, Mandhana said that clarity within the squad has played a crucial role in RCB winning all five of their matches so far and becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
Reflecting on the team’s performances, Mandhana said the campaign has begun on a very positive note. She expressed satisfaction with how the team has executed its plans, stressing that the players have focused on sticking to their processes and taking the tournament one match at a time. According to the RCB skipper, the morale within the group is high and the overall environment in the camp has been excellent.
Mandhana highlighted the importance of collective contributions, stating that success has not depended on individual brilliance alone. She pointed out that beyond Player of the Match performances, different players have stepped up at crucial moments whenever the situation demanded. The captain noted that RCB have managed to find ways to win in every game, even when they were under pressure, and the ability to close out matches in challenging situations is always a strong sign for any team.
Speaking about the team culture, Mandhana said there is a strong sense of belief within the squad and the players are gelling well together. She credited the coaching staff and management for creating an environment where everyone brings the same intensity. She added that the commitment shown during training sessions, with players willing to go the extra mile, has been reflected in the wide range of performances seen during matches, from experienced players to young talents.
Mandhana also praised the team management for assembling a balanced and strong squad at the auction. She said that coming out of the auction, it was clear RCB had plenty of options at their disposal, which gave the team flexibility. The captain emphasized that players understanding and executing their roles effectively has made a significant difference to the results.
Highlighting the bowling depth, Mandhana said that having wicket-taking bowlers consistently putting pressure on opponents has been a major factor behind RCB’s success. She concluded by stating that the overall balance and depth across the squad is giving the team confidence as they move forward in the tournament.
