Punjab Government entrusts seasoned academician and management expert with leadership of MBSPSU

The Punjab Government has appointed eminent academician and management doyen Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill as the Vice-Chancellor of The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala. The appointment has been made for a tenure of three years, effective from the date he assumes charge.

Dr. Gill brings with him more than 36 years of rich and diverse experience spanning academia, research, university administration, and international corporate consulting. A retired Professor from Punjabi University, Patiala, he has served in several key leadership roles that make him uniquely suited to guide Punjab’s premier sports university on a path of growth and global recognition.

An official spokesperson stated that Dr. Gill holds a Doctorate from Punjabi University, Patiala (1993) and served with distinction in the School of Management Studies during his long and illustrious academic career. His contribution to teaching, research, and institution-building has earned him wide respect in academic and policy circles.

Beyond academics, Dr. Gill also brings valuable international corporate experience. He served as Chief Executive Officer for The Coca-Cola Company in Africa between 1999 and 2001, working across countries including Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Nigeria. This exposure provided him with deep insights into corporate governance, strategic leadership, and organizational excellence—skills that are expected to strengthen higher education administration at MBSPSU.

Dr. Gill’s scholarly record is equally impressive. He has authored 84 research papers in reputed national and international journals, written 10 books, and contributed over 400 articles to leading magazines and newspapers on management and allied subjects. He has also served as an Expert with Public Service Commissions in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab, reflecting his credibility in academic and administrative decision-making.

Articulating his vision, Dr. Gill aims to position MBSPSU as India’s benchmark institution for integrated sports education, high-performance sport, and applied research. His focus is on building a collaborative ecosystem where students, athletes, coaches, faculty, and industry partners work together to translate sports science into podium success and sustainable careers in the sports sector.

The appointment is expected to give a strong boost to the university’s mission of developing world-class athletes and professionals, while strengthening Punjab’s standing on the national and international sports education map.
