The hearing in a defamation case involving Kangana Ranaut was held on Wednesday (25 March) at Bathinda court, where the actor-turned-politician appeared via video conferencing.

During the proceedings, the statement of a witness, Jasvir Singh, was recorded. The court has now scheduled the next hearing in the case for April 7, 2026.

Advocate Raghbir Singh Behniwal informed the court that two witnesses were to be presented on behalf of the complainant, Mahinder Kaur. However, one of the witnesses, Surjit Singh Phool, had to leave due to urgent work, and therefore only one statement could be recorded.

Meanwhile, no hearing took place on Wednesday in a separate passport impounding case related to Kangana. The matter dates back to the time of the farmers' protests against the agricultural laws in Delhi, when Kangana had shared a controversial post on social media.

The complaint in the defamation case was filed by Mahinder Kaur, a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda. She alleged that Kangana had made a remark in her post stating that women participating in the protests were paid ₹100 each, which she claimed was defamatory.

Mahinder Kaur filed the case on the same day the statement was made. Earlier, Kangana had approached the Supreme Court of India seeking to quash the case, but the court declined to grant relief.

The case has remained controversial and has been under legal scrutiny for several years.
