Punjab’s crackdown on organized crime under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is witnessing strong public backing, according to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State Media Incharge Baltej Pannu. The campaign, titled ‘Gangsters Te Vaar’, has encouraged citizens across the state to actively assist law enforcement agencies.

590 Complaints Highlight Rising Public Participation

Pannu revealed that hundreds of people have stepped forward to share information about criminal activities through a dedicated helpline, signaling that public tolerance for gangsterism is rapidly declining. So far, around 590 complaints have been registered, reflecting growing trust in the government’s efforts.

FIRs Registered, Gang Networks Hit

He emphasized that the identity of informants is being kept strictly confidential to ensure their safety. Among the complaints received, 83 are related to drug trafficking, 35 to extortion, 43 to gangster activities, and 86 to illegal weapons. Acting swiftly on these inputs, police have already registered FIRs in 63 serious cases.

According to Pannu, several gangsters and their associates have been named in these cases, significantly weakening their networks. He added that the increasing willingness of people to report crimes without fear highlights their confidence in the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and the state government.

Investigations into many other complaints are currently underway, and further legal action is expected soon. Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Pannu said the campaign will continue until Punjab is completely free from gangsterism and becomes a safer place for its citizens.
