Punjab Congress Leader Dies in Haryana: Truck Rams Defender; Driver Also Killed While Returning from Delhi

A senior Punjab Congress leader Khushbaaz Singh Jattana and his driver were killed in a tragic road accident on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Sonipat. A Punjab Police constable travelling with them was seriously injured and is in critical condition.

The accident occurred near the Jakholi Toll Plaza when the leader was returning to Punjab from Delhi. Their SUV Defender reportedly suffered a tyre puncture, and they stopped on the roadside. While they were preparing to get the tyre repaired, a speeding truck hit their parked vehicle from behind.

In the impact, Congress leader Khushbaaz Jattana and his driver Parminder Singh died on the spot. Their gunman, Punjab Police constable Karandeep Singh, was critically injured and is undergoing treatment.

Khushbaaz Singh Jattana was a senior leader of the Punjab Congress. He had contested the 2022 Assembly elections from Talwandi Sabo and had also served as a chairman in the Punjab government.

Police reached the spot soon after the incident and shifted the bodies to the civil hospital for post-mortem.

The truck driver fled the scene after the crash. Police have started an investigation and are conducting raids to trace the accused.
