A woman from Amritsar was injured late Thursday night after a rock broke loose from a hillside near the Baba Balak Nath Temple area. The incident occurred around 10:15 PM near Barrier No. 1 when a group of around 15 to 20 devotees was heading towards the temple.

The injured woman, identified as Devi (40), was visiting the temple with her two children. According to eyewitnesses, as the pilgrims reached near the barrier, a large rock suddenly fell from the adjoining hill, landing on the road. Fragments of the rock hit the woman, causing injuries, while her children narrowly escaped unharmed. The incident created panic in the area.

Local shopkeepers and bystanders immediately rushed to help and provided first aid before shifting the woman to a temporary hospital set up by the temple trust. After treatment, her condition was reported to be stable.

Temple official Subhash Malhotra said that staff were immediately sent to the spot after receiving information. He added that, keeping pilgrims’ safety in mind, fencing will be installed at the affected area to prevent such incidents in the future. Devotees are currently being directed to use an alternative safe route.

Authorities have also instructed on-site staff and security personnel to take preventive safety measures, and an ambulance was dispatched to the location soon after the incident.
