New Delhi/Bengaluru: India spinner Kuldeep Yadav revealed that picking wickets in the middle overs played a decisive role in Delhi Capitals’ thrilling six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
RCB got off to a strong start in the powerplay and looked on course for a big total. However, as the pitch began to slow down, DC bowlers adjusted their lengths and varied their pace to regain control of the game. Kuldeep said the team focused on reading conditions carefully and executing plans based on each batter’s strengths. He added that discussions with skipper Axar Patel helped in targeting key players, especially Phil Salt, by bowling away from his preferred hitting zones.
The turning point came in the middle overs when DC struck crucial wickets in quick succession. The dismissal of Phil Salt slowed RCB’s momentum, while Axar Patel removed Devdutt Padikkal and Tim David at key moments. Kuldeep also chipped in with the important wicket of Romario Shepherd. From a strong position of 105/3, RCB collapsed to 175/8, scoring just 29 runs in the last five overs. Bowlers like T Natarajan, Lungi Ngidi, and Mukesh Kumar executed their plans effectively.
Chasing 176, DC suffered an early setback as Bhuvneshwar Kumar reduced them to 18/3. However, KL Rahul (57) and Tristan Stubbs (60 not out) steadied the innings with a crucial 76-run partnership.
The match went down to the final over, where experienced David Miller held his nerve, smashing two sixes and a four to guide DC to victory with one ball remaining. Kuldeep emphasized that on a small ground like the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, taking wickets in the middle overs is essential to shift momentum and put the opposition under pressure.
