Chandigarh's forest area increased by 9 percent, Electric vehicles being included in the government fleet

Punjab Governor & Administrator UT Chandigarh Banwarilal Purohit said that the electric vehicles plays major role to curb the pollution and make the environment better. Shri Banwarilal said that Chandigarh is on the path to become the pollution free city and 53 charging stations will be established at different places in Chandigarh by March 31st. PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized 3 days exhibition on “Electric vehicle & Renewable Energy Expo” with a tag line “petrol diesel ka challenge karlo EV se balance ” from 15 march to 17 march at exibition ground sector 34 Chandigarh. Today the exhibition is inaugurated by Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh.
On this occasion, Banwarilal said that the people of Chandigarh have now started buying electric vehicles and considering the EV convenience, the Chandigarh administration has accelerated the campaign to install electric vehicle chargers, due to which the charging stations installed by March 31 will become active. He said that in the future, the number of charging stations will be increased as increasing the number of electric vehicles in city.
The Governor said that if we see Chandigarh with a drone, then the whole city looks green, that's why it is called City Beautiful. Banwarilal Purohit said that I did a review from the previous years with which you will be happy to know that there has been an increase of 9 percent in Chandigarh forest. He said that the beauty of Chandigarh is its greenery.

He said that the Chandigarh administration launched its Electric Vehicle Policy in September 2022, with a vision to make Chandigarh a 'Model EV City' by achieving one of the highest penetrations of zero-emission vehicles among all Indian cities. Our target is to see 70% of all new vehicle registrations in the Union Territory as EVs by the end of 2027. He said that in Chandigarh 80 Electric buses is running and 100 more buses will launched soon to prevent the fossil fuel.

In the midst of global environmental challenges and the imperative to build a sustainable future, the need for electric vehicles has never been more evident. Our world is facing the consequences of climate change, air pollution, and the depletion of natural resources.

Earlier, welcoming Purohit on his arrival here, TC Nautiyal, IFS Secretary, Science and Technology, Chandigarh Administration said that people inclination towards electric vehicles (EV) is increasing in the city. Chandigarh tops the country in EV adoption. He said that till now Rs 18.66 crore has been given as subsidy to those who want to buy EV vehicles.

Earlier, Madhu Sudan VIJ Chair Chandigarh Chapter PHDCCI said that in view of the increasing demand for electric vehicles in Chandigarh, a three-day expo has been organized by the Chamber. Where people can see many types of vehicles under one roof. On this occasion, Navneet Srivastava (IFS), CEO of Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), expressed his gratitude to the guests and said that various schemes are being run by the department to promote solar energy. Efforts are being made to connect more and more people with it in Chandigarh and surrounding areas.

PHDCCI Punjab Chapter Chairman R.S. Sachdeva said that this is the second event of the chamber. It will be expanded in future. On this occasion, Bharti Sood PHDCCI Regional Director, Parv Arora, Convener, Regional Renewal Energy Committee PHDCCI, Bhupinder Singh Project Manager CREST, Rajesh Khosla, Deepak Pandey and many other dignitaries were present.
