Simranjeet Kaur, a promising athlete from the Central University of Punjab, has brought laurels to the University by becoming its first sportsperson to qualify for the Khelo India Games. She secured her qualification with an impressive throw of 14.42 metres in the shot put event at the All-India Inter-University Athletics Competition.
The national-level championship was organised under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities and jointly hosted by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and the Alva Education Foundation, Mangaluru, Karnataka, from January 12 to 16, 2026. The event witnessed participation from athletes representing universities across the country, making it a highly competitive platform.
Simranjeet Kaur’s achievement reflects her dedication, discipline, and consistent performance in track and field athletics. She has been training under the expert guidance of Dr. Somanpreet Singh, Assistant Professor and athletics specialist in track and field, whose technical mentorship has played a crucial role in her success.
Congratulating the athlete, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, lauded her perseverance and remarked that her accomplishment exemplifies the University’s commitment to promoting excellence in both academics and sports. He expressed confidence that she would continue to make the institution proud at the national level.
Prof. Vijay Sharma, Registrar, also congratulated Simranjeet Kaur and her mentor, noting that such achievements highlight the strong sporting culture on campus. He encouraged students to pursue holistic development by actively engaging in sports alongside academics.
