CU Punjab students staged the play Umar Ka Parwana at the prestigious Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026, held at the Mini Auditorium, DLCSUPVA, Rohtak. Presented by the Department of Performing and Fine Arts, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, the play is written by eminent storyteller Vijaydhan Detha and directed by Dr. Adish Kumar Verma.
Organised by the National School of Drama under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav—recognised as the world’s largest international theatre festival—provides a significant platform for artistic excellence and cultural dialogue.
A remarkable feature of the performance was the dedication of CU Punjab's Sri Lankan students who overcame language barriers to deliver a compelling presentation in Hindi and Rajasthani. Their rigorous preparation, refined pronunciation, and sensitive portrayal of cultural nuances reflected deep artistic commitment and intercultural harmony.
Rooted in folk tradition, Umar Ka Parwana explores the timeless struggle between good and evil, highlighting themes of love, suffering, justice and moral courage. The powerful narrative, enriched with traditional elements and strong musical textures, captivated the audience and reinforced the message of righteousness prevailing over darkness.
With cohesive direction, disciplined ensemble performance and culturally grounded storytelling, CU Punjab students’ presentation of Umar Ka Parwana emerged as a significant highlight of the Rohtak leg of Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026.
