Dr. Baljit Kaur strongly condemns Raja Warring’s remarks on Late Buta Singh

Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-

Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur today issued a strong statement condemning the recent remarks made by Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring about the late Congress stalwart and former Union Home Minister Sardar Buta Singh.

Dr. Baljit Kaur, who holds the portfolio of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, expressed deep anguish over the incident. She said, “Mr. Buta Singh was not merely a towering figure in Indian politics, but a symbol of pride and empowerment for the Scheduled Castes community. To speak of him in such objectionable terms is an affront to his legacy and a betrayal of the values he upheld throughout his life.”

She further stated, “I strongly condemn the derogatory and insensitive remarks made by Mr. Raja Warring. Such language, especially when directed at a revered Dalit leader, reflects a disturbing lack of respect and empathy. It is unacceptable in any civil discourse, let alone in the political domain.”

Dr. Kaur appealed to all political leaders to uphold the dignity of public service and maintain respect and sensitivity in their speech. “We must remember that our words carry weight. The contributions of Mr. Buta Singh cannot be diminished by irresponsible rhetoric,” she added.

The Minister also welcomed the suo motu action taken by the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, which has issued a notice to Mr. Warring and sought a report from the Tarn Taran Returning Officer. “Accountability must follow such incidents. I urge the Commission to pursue this matter seriously to ensure that justice is served—not only for the memory of Mr. Buta Singh but also for the dignity of every citizen who values respect and equality,” said Dr. Baljit Kaur.

Concluding her statement, Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized that Punjab’s political culture must embody the values of equality, justice, and mutual respect.
