The heat continues to intensify across Punjab and Chandigarh, with the Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for a heatwave from April 21 to 23. Warm nights are also expected in some areas during this period.

The weather is expected to remain dry. While there was no significant change in temperatures on Sunday, it was recorded at 3.1 degrees above normal. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 41.3°C, followed by Chandigarh at 39.3°C. However, no alert has been issued for today (April 20).

In response to the rising heat, the Health Department has set up heatstroke units in hospitals to handle emergencies. People have been advised not to self-medicate in case of high fever or heatwave symptoms, but to immediately visit the nearest hospital and consult specialist doctors. Senior doctors have been deployed round the clock.

Residents are advised to avoid stepping out in the sun between 12 PM and 3 PM and to drink water every half hour. Increased intake of fluids is recommended. People should also consume water-rich fruits and vegetables such as watermelon, muskmelon, oranges, grapes and cucumber etc.

According to Meteorological Department Director Surender Pal, the weather will remain dry in the coming days, but heatwave conditions and warm nights may affect some regions between April 21 and 23.
