Preparations for the upcoming Panchayat elections in Himachal Pradesh have picked up pace, with the verification of voter lists already underway across various Panchayats. The initiative aims to ensure that the revision process is carried out in a fair, accurate, and transparent manner.
The process of updating voter lists including adding new names and removing ineligible ones is scheduled to be completed by March 28. Authorities are including citizens who have turned 18 within the stipulated period, while removing the names of deceased or relocated voters. Panchayat Secretaries have been given strict instructions to ensure that no eligible voter is left out during this process.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioners are working on preparing reservation rosters for their respective districts. These rosters will define the allocation of seats reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women. The entire exercise is being conducted in line with guidelines issued by the Supreme Court of India, which mandate timely completion of such procedures.
This time, elections are proposed to be held in 3,773 Panchayats across the state. Preparations are being finalized by the Panchayati Raj Department and the State Election Commission. Officials have indicated that once the voter list revision and reservation processes are completed, the official notification for the elections will be issued.
