A new chapter has begun in Nepal as Balendra Shah, leader of the National Independent Party, was officially sworn in as the country’s 47th Prime Minister on Friday. President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office during a grand ceremony held at the President’s Office at 12:34 PM. The ceremony followed Hindu rituals, with seven conch shell blowers marking the occasion, symbolizing success and positivity. The 35-year-old RSP leader became the country’s youngest Prime Minister.

The National Independent Party has already finalized 14 names for the cabinet, with reports indicating that Sudan Gurung, a prominent leader of the 'Gen Z' movement and winner from the Gorkha-2 constituency, may be appointed as the new Home Minister.

Shah, who entered politics in 2022 by winning the Kathmandu mayoral election as an independent candidate, achieved a historic victory in the parliamentary elections by defeating former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli in Jhapa-5, Eastern Nepal. Shah received 68,348 votes against Oli’s 18,734, securing the largest number of votes for any candidate in Nepal since 1991.

This marks a significant milestone for Nepal, with a fresh leadership poised to shape the nation’s political future.
