Scored Fifty in 22 Balls Against New Zealand, New Powerplay Sixes Leader
A new power-hitter is quickly making his mark in Indian cricket. Young Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has delivered such explosive performances in T20 Internationals that it is now hard to find a bigger hitter than him in the powerplay. In the match against New Zealand in Nagpur, Abhishek put the bowlers under pressure right from the start and played a spectacular innings that grabbed everyone’s attention.
Abhishek Sharma scored his half-century in just 22 balls, setting a new record. This is now the fastest fifty by an Indian against New Zealand in T20Is. Previously, the record was jointly held by KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, who had scored fifties in 23 balls each in 2020. Abhishek has now surpassed this record, establishing himself as the new “Sixer King” of the T20 format.
Abhishek’s aggressive approach is not limited to a single match. Since making his T20I debut on July 6, 2024, he has become the player with the most sixes in the powerplay. Statistics show that Abhishek has hit a total of 49 sixes in the first 6 overs (powerplay) in T20Is since his debut.
No other player comes close to his numbers. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan is second on the list with 28 sixes, while Bryan Bennett has 25 and Shai Hope has 24. These numbers clearly show that Abhishek dominates bowlers during the powerplay and puts the opposing team on the back foot from the very beginning.
Cricket fans are now watching closely to see how Abhishek Sharma continues this form in upcoming matches and whether he can become a consistent match-winner for India in the T20 format.
