IPL 2026: Ian Bishop slams criticism of Mayank Yadav, calls his comeback ‘nothing short of a miracle’

LSG pacer returns after nearly a year, clocks 150 kmph but faces backlash after an expensive spell

Punjab Newsline,Sports:

The return of Mayank Yadav in IPL 2026 has become one of the most talked-about moments of the season. After spending almost a year away from competitive cricket due to recurring injuries, the young fast bowler made his comeback amid high expectations. However, his performance for Lucknow Super Giants turned out to be expensive, leading to criticism on social media.
Amid the backlash, former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop strongly defended the 23-year-old. Taking to social media, Bishop described the negative comments as “horrifying” and emphasized that Yadav had nearly lost his career at the age of 21 due to serious injuries.

He highlighted that simply seeing the pacer back on the field is a massive achievement in itself.
In the match against Rajasthan Royals, Yadav impressed with his pace, even crossing the 150 kmph mark. However, he conceded 20 runs in the final over, where Ravindra Jadeja took charge with aggressive batting. Yadav ended with figures of 0/56 in his four overs, making it the most expensive spell among LSG bowlers in the match.
Rajasthan Royals posted 159/6 and followed it up with a disciplined bowling performance to bowl out LSG for 119, securing a convincing 40-run victory.
While the numbers did not favor Yadav, his return and raw pace indicate his immense potential. With time and consistent fitness, the young pacer will look to silence critics and make a strong impact in the upcoming matches.
