India’s fast bowler celebrates remarkable achievements across all formats
India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah completed 10 years in international cricket on Friday, describing his journey as one of “going against assumptions, opinions, and perceptions.”
Bumrah made his international debut in January 2016 during an ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, delivering an impressive performance with figures of 2-40. He also emerged as India’s highest wicket-taker in the T20I leg of the tour, helping the team win the series 3-0.
Over the past decade, Bumrah has become one of the world’s leading fast bowlers. On this milestone, he posted on Instagram, “10 years of living the dream of the child who fell in love with the sport that made me feel alive like nothing else in this world. Bumrah’s statistics reflect his dominance with the ball. In 52 Test matches, he has taken 234 wickets at an average of 19.79, including 16 five-wicket hauls, with best innings figures of 9-86. In 89 ODIs, he has claimed 149 wickets at 23.55, while in 83 T20Is, he has picked 103 wickets at an average of 18.17.
He also became the first Indian fast bowler to achieve the number one spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings. His outstanding performances have earned him top awards, including the ICC Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024, ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024, and Player of the Tournament in India for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, where he took 15 wickets at an average of 8.26.
