JALANDHAR: US Based North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) urged the Government of India to extend the date of OCI Card renewal till December 31,2021. Releasing this statement NAPA executive director Satnam Singh Chahal said that as per existing Indian Government guidelines, the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards required to be renewed each time a new passport is issued up to the age of 20 years of age,

once between the age of 20 and 50 years and once again after the card holder completes 50 years which will remain valid for the rest of his/her life time. This is required as there are likely changes in the physical appearance of the applicant. Chahal said that in view of the ongoing pandemic Government of India extended the date of OCI Card renewal till June 30,2021 which date is coming very closer which is becoming very difficult for those OCI Card holders who want travel to India and their OCI Cards are expired or going to expire in a very near future.

Chahal further said that the Covid-19 second wave is breaking out in India in a full swing , therefore most of the OCI Card holders postponed their visit to India and want to reschedule their visit to India after the danger of Covid-19 is over.
Chahal appealed to the Government of India that those travelers whose OCI Cards are expired or going to be expired should be permitted to travel for India if such card holders will show the passport as mentioned in the OCI card and the new passport which was not mentioned in the OCI Card. This will be a great relief to thousands of Indian Diaspora settled abroad added Chahal.
