On the second trading day of the week, the Indian stock market experienced a sharp decline, with the Sensex dropping over 800 points. The Nifty slipped below 22,800, reflecting bearish sentiment among investors.
In early trading, the Sensex fell 824.44 points to settle at 73,282.41, while the Nifty declined 248.95 points to 22,719.30. Shares of Eterna and IndiGo saw a 2% drop each. The rupee weakened by 17 paise against the US dollar, trading at ₹93.07.
Meanwhile, Asian markets showed a mixed trend amid cautious trading on Tuesday. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 lost early gains, falling 0.2% to 53,310.30 in morning trade. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.5% to 8,706.90, while South Korea’s KOSPI remained almost unchanged, declining less than 0.1% to 5,445.80. China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.4%, reaching 3,896.98. Markets in Hong Kong were closed due to a public holiday.
