Conference focuses on good governance, democratic challenges and technology use in legislative functioning

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan participated in the 86th All India Presiding Officers Conference (AIPOC) held in Lucknow. The three-day conference, organised by the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, was attended by leading members of Legislative Assemblies and Legislative Councils from across the country.

During the conference, detailed discussions were held on key themes such as Good Governance, the current challenges faced by democratic institutions, and the increasing use of technology in legislative functioning. Speaker Sandhwan said that these discussions will prove highly significant in making democracy more transparent, accountable and effective in today’s fast-growing digital era.

He highlighted that technology can play an important role in improving legislative work by strengthening transparency, promoting efficiency, and enhancing public participation in democratic processes. The deliberations at AIPOC, he added, reflect the need to modernise legislatures while protecting democratic values and institutional dignity.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker also held a positive and constructive meeting with S. Baldev Singh Aulakh, Minister of State for Agriculture Education and Research in the Government of Uttar Pradesh. During the meeting, both leaders held detailed discussions on the present challenges of the agriculture sector and the ongoing efforts being made for the welfare of farmers.

Speaker Sandhwan appreciated the initiatives being taken for farmer welfare and said he was impressed by Minister Aulakh’s simplicity, visionary thinking and seriousness towards farming-related issues. The Speaker expressed his gratitude and warm respect to the Agriculture Minister for his dedication and commitment to addressing agricultural concerns.

The participation of Speaker Sandhwan in AIPOC underlines Punjab’s active involvement in national democratic platforms and its commitment to strengthening legislative functioning through dialogue, cooperation and modern governance practices.
