A group calling itself Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) has claimed responsibility for the attack on ASI Sukhchain Singh, posted with the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Amritsar.
In a press release issued by the organisation, the attack was described as an action carried out under “Operation Noor.” The group also allegedly threatened to target police personnel and government employees in the future.
However, the claims made by the organisation have not been independently verified.
The press release reportedly used threatening language against police personnel, claiming that they could be identified whether they were in uniform or plain clothes. The organisation also claimed to have information about police personnel and threatened to target them one by one. It further claimed that a video related to the attack would be released soon.
Earlier, Amritsar Rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal had said that the statement of ASI Sukhchain Singh had been recorded. According to the ASI, he suspected that his sister-in-law, Gurpreet Kaur, may have arranged the attack on him.
At that stage, police were investigating the case from all possible angles. Following the emergence of the TTH claim, investigators are likely to examine this aspect as part of the ongoing probe.
The police are yet to establish the authenticity of the organisation's claim or determine whether it has any connection with the attack.
