Titas Sadhu ruled out due to injury, Kalita joins Giants for the remainder of the season
In the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, Gujarat Giants have made an important change by signing Jintimani Kalita as an injury replacement for Titas Sadhu for the remainder of the tournament. The move is expected to add depth to the squad, as Kalita is a left-handed batter and a right-arm medium pacer, offering support in both departments.
Jintimani Kalita has prior experience in the WPL, having previously represented Mumbai Indians. She has played a total of 13 matches across the last three editions of the tournament, which makes her a relatively experienced option in the league. Gujarat Giants have signed her for Rs 10 Lakhs, and she will aim to strengthen the team’s chances as they push for a playoff spot in WPL 2026.
Titas Sadhu had joined Gujarat Giants from Delhi Capitals ahead of this season. However, the 21-year-old fast bowler did not get to play a single match for the Giants this year before being ruled out of the competition due to injury. Her absence has forced the franchise to look for a replacement, and Kalita has now been brought in to fill that gap.
The WPL confirmed the development through an official statement, saying that Gujarat Giants picked Jintimani Kalita as an injury replacement for Titas Sadhu for the remaining matches of the season. The statement highlighted Kalita’s WPL background, mentioning her 13-game experience in the league and describing her as a left-handed batter and right-arm medium-fast bowler. Gujarat Giants have signed her at a base price of Rs 10 Lakh.
Sadhu has struggled with multiple injuries over the last two years, which has impacted her playing time at the top level. She was also the only Indian member of the Gujarat Giants squad who had not featured for the team this season.
Titas Sadhu first rose to prominence with her impressive performances in the U19 World Cup, and later in the WPL with Delhi Capitals. Her strong form helped her earn her maiden India call-up in 2023. She made her T20I debut against Bangladesh on September 24, 2023. Later, she earned her ODI cap on December 5, 2024, when India played Australia in Brisbane.
However, Sadhu’s last international appearance came a year ago in January 2025, against Ireland. That match was played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, and she has remained out of the Indian setup since then. With Sadhu now ruled out of WPL 2026, Gujarat Giants will be hoping that Jintimani Kalita’s inclusion provides a timely boost as the team continues its campaign in the league.
