Senior Congress Leader Lal Singh Passes Away

Senior Punjab Congress leader and former Cabinet Minister Lal Singh passed away on Saturday (28 March). He had been unwell for the past few days and was undergoing treatment at Max Hospital. His demise has sent a wave of grief across the Congress party and political circles in Punjab.

A veteran leader of the Indian National Congress, Lal Singh played a significant role in state politics for decades. He also served as the Finance Minister in the government led by former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. In addition, he held the position of Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board.

Lal Singh began his political journey in the 1980s with the Congress party and steadily rose through the ranks. Known for his strong influence in the Patiala region, he established himself as a key organizational leader over the years.

He first tasted major electoral success in 1992 when he was elected as an MLA from the Patiala Rural constituency. He went on to win the seat multiple times in 2002, 2007 and 2012 cementing his position as a prominent face in Punjab politics.

During his tenure in government, Lal Singh handled several important portfolios, including the Food department, and was known for his administrative experience and grassroots connect.
