The State Election Commission has initiated the revision of electoral rolls and directed all Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers to complete the process for the upcoming general and bye-elections in nine municipal corporations namely(Barnala, Bathinda, Abohar, Batala, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Moga, S.A.S. Nagar, and Pathankot) and 104 municipal councils/municipal panchayats across Punjab.

The latest voter lists available with the Election Commission of India have been provided to districts, which will be used as the basis for preparing fresh electoral rolls for the respective urban local bodies. While preparing these lists, the finalized and notified delimitation carried out by the Department of Local Government will be taken into account.

Eligible voters under the jurisdiction of the concerned municipal bodies have been advised to carefully verify their names and details in the draft electoral rolls. The draft lists will be made available on the respective district websites on April 15, 2026.

The Commission has prescribed a statutory period of seven days for filing claims and objections, from April 17 to April 23, 2026 (both dates inclusive). In addition, Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to conduct a special enrollment campaign on April 20 and April 21 to facilitate voter registration.

All claims and objections received will be disposed of by April 30, 2026. The final electoral rolls will be published on May 5, 2026 and will also be available for public access on district websites.

The qualifying date for new voter registration has been fixed as April 23, 2026. This means any eligible citizen who attains the age of 18 years on or before this date will be entitled to register as a voter.

Forms for claims and objections (Forms 7, 8, and 9) will be available at the offices of the concerned SDM-cum-Electoral Registration Officers. These can also be downloaded from the Commission’s official website (sec.punjab.gov.in) and submitted after duly filling them to the respective authorities.
