Key discussions to focus on strategic partnership, trade, investment, and defence cooperation
The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is arriving in New Delhi on Monday on an official visit to India. During the visit, he is expected to hold detailed discussions with the Indian leadership on ways to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE. The visit is being seen as significant in the backdrop of rapidly evolving geopolitical developments in West Asia.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to India is taking place at a time when the region is witnessing heightened tensions due to a sharp deterioration in Iran–US relations, growing strains between Saudi Arabia and the UAE over the Yemen issue, and an unstable political situation in Gaza. Experts believe that these regional developments have wider implications for global politics and energy security, making closer coordination between India and the UAE increasingly important.
According to sources familiar with the visit, discussions between the two sides are expected to cover a wide range of issues, including trade and investment, defence industry cooperation, energy security, and future joint initiatives. The leaders are also likely to explore ways to deepen economic engagement and expand strategic and defence collaboration between the two countries.
This will be the UAE President’s third official visit to India since assuming office, and his fifth visit to the country in the past ten years. Over the years, frequent high-level engagements between the leadership of both nations have played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral ties and giving new momentum to the India-UAE relationship.
It is noteworthy that India and the UAE signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2022, which led to a significant increase in bilateral trade and people-to-people contacts. Following the agreement, trade volumes have grown steadily, while new opportunities have emerged in investment, startups, innovation, and technology-driven sectors.
The Ministry of External Affairs has described the visit as an important opportunity to explore new avenues of cooperation between the two countries. The visit is expected to further consolidate bilateral relations and open doors for collaboration in emerging areas of mutual interest. Officials are optimistic that the talks will help strengthen India-UAE ties and enhance cooperation in addressing regional as well as global challenges.
