Amritsar Police Bust Pakistan-Operated Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module, Six Arrested

Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh

Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled a Pakistan-operated cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of six individuals, including a 16-year-old juvenile. The operation, part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen law and order, led to the recovery of six sophisticated pistols. The arrested accused include Gurbir Singh alias Sonu (28), Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa (32), Gorka Singh alias Gora, Rajwinder Singh alias Raju— all residents of Tarn Taran’s Khem Karan area— Jaspal Singh alias Jass (24) of Amritsar’s Bachiwind village, and a juvenile from Sultanpur Lodhi.

According to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, the preliminary probe confirms that the accused were in direct touch with a Pakistan-based handler through social media. This handler allegedly provided GPS coordinates for retrieving weapon consignments that were later supplied to criminals active in the Majha and Doaba regions.

The first breakthrough came during an intelligence-led operation when police teams apprehended Gurbir and Gurpreet, recovering two .30 bore pistols from them. Their interrogation helped police uncover the entire network. Subsequent raids resulted in the arrest of Gorka with one .30 bore pistol, Jaspal with another .30 bore pistol, Rajwinder with a 9mm PX5 pistol, and the detention of the juvenile carrying a .30 bore pistol.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar informed that accused Gorka and Rajwinder have a criminal history, including NDPS cases and charges under the POCSO Act. Police have also identified two individuals from Kapurthala as receivers of these illegal arms, and efforts are underway to arrest them.

A case under Sections 25(6,7,8) of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar. Further investigation is ongoing to trace the financial and logistical links of the module.
