CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh State President of All India Jatt Mahasabha and President of Chandigarh Nambardar Union Rajinder Singh Badheri has expressed deep grief over the demise of former Chandigarh Pradesh Congress President Brij Bhushan Behl.

In a press note issued here, he said that a great leader and social worker B.B. Behl's sad demise is an irreparable loss. Chandigarh residents will never forget his contribution.

Behl had been living with his daughter in the United States for a long time and died there. The news of his demise has triggered a wave of mourning in the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress.

Badheri said that after the victory of the Congress at the Lok Sabha seat of Chandigarh in 1999, Mr. B.B. Behl became the President of Chandigarh Pradesh Congress and held the post till January 2015. No leader other than Behl has been in office for so long - the record is still in his name. He was considered close to former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Speaking on Behl's personal life,  Badheri further said that he had his own hotel 'President' in Chandigarh Sector-26. However, due to old age, he moved to the United States in 2015 to spend the rest of his life.

Badheri further said that as the President of Chandigarh Pradesh Congress he had got the Congress office at Sector-35 rebuilt. Earlier, the office had only two rooms but he erected a huge building there.

S. Badheri also said that during the tenure of Mr. Behl, Congress had not lost even a single election in Chandigarh from the Municipal Corporation to the Market Committee. He was deeply influenced by the Congress ideology since his childhood. He always wanted to be the party president; that is why he named his hotel 'President'.
